Description

Top quality fishing flies, tied on Mustad and Kamasan hooks and packed in dozens for your convenience.

The Hawthorne Dry Fly is designed to imitate the Hawthorn Fly (Bibio marci), also known as the St. Mark’s Fly. This terrestrial insect is named after St. Mark’s Day, April 25th, which is around the time these flies start to appear in large numbers.

The origin of the Hawthorne Dry Fly dates back to the need for anglers to match the hatch of these terrestrial insects. The Hawthorn Fly is commonly found near hedgerows, fields, and low bushes, and is often blown onto the water’s surface where fish, especially trout and grayling, eagerly feed on them.

The Hawthorne Dry Fly pattern was developed to mimic the appearance of these black, shiny flies, which can have a significant impact on fishing success during their hatching period, typically late April through May. The pattern has become a staple in the fly fishing community due to its effectiveness in imitating this common terrestrial insect.

Due to the variance in natural materials the flies may vary slightly from the images.
