Description
The name ‘Duckfly’ is the name given to Buzzers that hatch on the big loughs in huge numbers and ducks (notably mallard) take to the water and have a good feed on them.. The buzzer itself is a member of the chironomid family, hatching from silty bottoms, rising slowly through the water as pupae, emerging with wings through the surface of the water before heading to land. They’re a big insect (#12 to #14 if you’re imitating exactly, #10 if you want to stand out) and well worth the Trout’s time feeding on them.
It’s a fact that many anglers catch most of their fish on just a few favourite patterns and buying flies in this way means you can quickly stock up your fly boxes for your next trip or even the season ahead and save money at the same time.
